May The Odds…
I have survived the 2001 Tech bust(working in Tech) and the 2008 Financial crash working for an investment bank and had to reinvent myself both times. I have had to become a chameleon multiple times. Hopefully, your journey will be less fraught than mine. I have been in the workforce to some degree since about 1994 and have seen so much change. Most jobs now involve digital applications going through an ATS(Applicant Tracking System), and a human is rarely the first person to see your resume. That being said, once a human does see your resume, here are some tells I have seen and stay wary of when navigating a job search.

Digital Footprint
When applying for an opportunity, you may be asked to apply through third parties such as LinkedIn or ADP. This is a very common practice. I search about every six months to a year to see what news third parties have recently popped up. Once you have applied, it is a best practice to research the company unless it is confidential, which I will cover later.

At a minimum, most companies will have a website, and most have some social media presence. Research these as well. While a basic-looking website isn’t always a red flag, I encourage people to look deeper. You can do a whois search to see when the company URL was set up and who the Administrative contact is.
